Drakes Branch Music Hall - Join us on Thursday evenings from 7-10pm for live music, dancing, & refreshments.  Sponsored by the Drakes Branch Ladies Club. Drakes Main Street.  Admission. (Proceeds benefit the Drakes Branch Volunteer Fire Department.) 

Philbeck’s Music House - Each Friday evening the “pickers” and listeners join for fellowship and bluegrass music. 7pm-11pm Everyone welcome, to listen or to play. Free, although you might bring a snack to add to the table.  6300 George Washington Hwy., Keysville (no phone calls please)

SPRING EVENTS Spring
Easter Egg Hunt - Saturday a full week before Easter (March 27, 2010). 1:00-3:30 pm. Admission $3 per child. Staunton River Battlefield State Park - Clover Visitor's Center.  Registration will begin at 1pm and egg hunt will be held from 1:15 to 1:45.  Afterwards children will have the opportunity to pet lives bunnies, visit with the Easter Bunny, participate in games, and more.  Rain date Sunday, March 28, 2010.  (434) 454-4312 www.stauntonriverbattlefield.org

Flora Fest - Saturday, April 17, 2010.  9 am to 2 pm. Charlotte County Master Gardeners will hold their annual sale of herbs, flowers, shrubs, and trees. Other activities include a lecture series with speakers presenting at 10 am, 11 am, & noon and an herbal luncheon scheduled for 12:30 pm.  (Tickets to the luncheon will be sold in advance.)  Proceeds benefit community gardening and education projects. Charlotte County Earth Day - Saturday, May 8, 2010. 9 am-3 pm. Activities include a 5K run, cruise-in, vendors & exhibits, music, pony rides and other children's activities, and more.  Central Middle School, 250 Statesmen Drive, Charlotte Court House. Charlotte County Celebration of the Arts - Saturday, May 8, 2010. 10am-3pm. Held in conjunction with Earth Day, this event features handcrafted items & artwork by local residents.  Other activities include art exhibits, student art displays, and a concert by the school band. Naturalization Ceremony at Red Hill - Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11am.  The public is cordially invited to arrive beginning at 9:30am, when docents will be found in Patrick Henry’s law office, reconstructed home and plantation buildings. Seating for the ceremony will begin at 10:30 and a post-ceremonial reception will be hosted by the Patrick Henry Auxiliary. The Naturalization Ceremony welcomes citizens to celebrate their new status in the country; it is the final step in the process of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen. 

Charlotte County Relay for Life
- May 16, 2009 beginning at 12 Noon. Games, crafts, food, educational exhibits. Donations accepted.  Benefits the American Cancer Society. Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), Keysville. Free.

SUMMER EVENTS Summer
Staunton River Battle Commemoration - Friday, June 25,2010 & Saturday, June 26, 2010.  On the 25th enjoy a wagon ride through the low grounds at sunset and a cannon firing demonstration.  Saturday's activities begin at 9 am and include a Confederate encampment, musket & cannon firing, music, a United Daughters of the Confederacy medal presentation, interpretive programs, and more. Red Hill 4th of July - Colonial children's games, interactive exhibits of 18th century life: cooking, ironwork at the forge, etc.,  crafts, food, and a huge fireworks display at 9 pm. Drakes Branch Fall Festival - September 12, 2009.  Parade, crafts, displays, food vendors & entertainment.  Activities begin at 9am, parade starts at 10am.  There will also be music at the Drakes Branch Music Hall beginning at 7pm.  Drakes Main St., Drakes Branch. (434) 568-3091

Barksdale Cancer Foundation Fall Auction - Saturday, October 10, 2009. Legacy of Love Dinner & Quilt Auction at Central Middle School in Charlotte Court House. Proceeds benefit The Barksdale Cancer Foundation. Dinner for ticket holders begins at 5 pm ($20 dinner tickets must be purchased in advanced.) Quilt Show doors open at 6 pm and the Auction begins at 7 pm (free admission for quilt show and auction). Quilts  are being donated by local quilters for this charitable auction to benefit local cancer victims. Halloween Haunted Harvest Hay Ride - Saturday, October 16, 2010.  Staunton River Battlefield State Park - Clover Visitors Center. Admission $5, age 5 and under Free. Taste of Charlotte Food Festival and Silent Auction -Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Central Middle School in Charlotte Court House.  The event features food samples prepared by fifty of the areas best cooks. Tickets are $12.50 for all you can eat and includes admission to the Silent Auction.  All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.  For more information or to purchase tickets call (434) 735-8276.

Truckers Parade
- Saturday October 24, 2009 beginning at 3pm.  Trucks parade throughout the County in support of the American Cancer Society.  The parade route begins at Phenix, follows Rt. 40 to Charlotte Court House, proceeds to Drakes Branch via Rt. 47, follows Rt. 59 to Keysville, and returns to Charlotte Court House by way of Rt. 40.  The parade schedule is below. Mulberry Hill Christmas - December 4 & 5, 2010, 1pm - 4pm.  Mulberry Hill Plantation, ancestral home of the Carrington Family, near Staunton River Battlefield State Park, Randolph. Red Hill Christmas Open House - December 6, 2009, 2pm-4pm. Complimentary admission. Nancy Carter Crump, author of Hearthside Cooking, will be on hand to sign her new book. Costumed docents will give guided tours of the house and plantation buildings decorated in traditional Christmas greenery. The event will also include blacksmithing and spinning & weaving demonstrations, period music and youth choral singing presented throughout the late afternoon, and Christmas sweets and mulled cider from the plantation kitchen. 1250 Red Hill Rd. near Brookneal. Supper with Santa - December 11, 2009, 5pm - 7:30 pm at the Early Learning Center, 401 Thomas Jefferson Highway, Charlotte Court House.  The Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a pancake supper with Santa!  For children 9 and under supper and a photo with Santa is $5.  For all others the cost is $6 for supper and $5 for a  photo with Santa.  The event will also include a "mini gingerbread house" workshop from 4pm to 7pm and a gingerbread house display.  Cost for the workshop (including all ingredients) will be $5.  For more information contact the Chamber of Commerce at (434) 542-4546 or see the event flyer.

13th Annual African-American History Celebration - February 27th, 2010  beginning at 2 pm at the Southside Virginia Community College auditorium at 200 Daniel Road, Keysville.  Guest speaker will be Dr. Ralph Reavis, President of Virginia University in Lynchburg, VA.  Music will be provided by the Randolph-Henry Jazz Band and others.  Admission is free and all are welcome!  Visit the Central High Museum website for more information.
